Headlines were generated recently when Billie Eilish expressed to Variety her feelings of being “physically attracted to” women, igniting discussions surrounding her love life and sexuality. Fast forward to this month, the Vogue cover star for November 2024 revealed her intention to keep her romantic life private from now on.
In a candid interview with Vogue, the “Birds of a Feather” singer stated, “I wish no one knew anything about my sexuality or anything about my dating life. Ever, ever, ever,” adding, “And I hope that they never will again.”
Reflecting on her earlier comments to Variety, Eilish mentioned that she hadn’t realized she was effectively coming out with those remarks. “But I kind of thought, ‘Wasn’t it obvious?'” she said. “I didn’t realize people didn’t know. But I saw the article, and I was like, ‘Oh, I guess I came out today.’ Okay cool.”
Nonetheless, she firmly stated to Vogue, “I’m never talking about my sexuality ever again. And I’m never talking about who I’m dating ever again.” In her November cover story, Eilish acknowledged her tendency to be “too open and too honest,” indicating a shift in her approach moving forward. “I guess I also underestimate that things I say will be blown up into the biggest news of the whole world,” she shared with Vogue.
Aside from dating, Eilish, who is currently on tour across North America until December, opened up about the challenges she faces while traveling. “I’ve had some really dark times on tour,” she admitted.
Initially, the “What Was I Made For” singer viewed her tours as something “kind of unpleasant, and whatever. It’ll be over.” However, she has come to understand that touring is an essential part of being an artist, stating, “the truth is, it’s the rest of my life.”
Eilish reflected on her past loneliness while touring, sharing, “I didn’t realize that I could make touring enjoyable. I just was very lonely for many years, and I’m not interested in that anymore. I want to enjoy the show as well as my days.”
To enhance her well-being, she is now focusing on her personal interests rather than seeking external validation. Recently, she has taken up hobbies like cooking—much to the surprise of those around her—and hinted at exploring acting. “I really secretly love it,” she revealed to Vogue.
Meanwhile, Eilish is actively collaborating with Power the Polls to motivate her fans to engage in the upcoming election. “A lot of my fans are going to be able to vote for the first time,” she mentioned.
Regarding her political views, Eilish expressed her desire for change: “First female president? Would be really amazing. I would love to feel safe as a woman in my country.”
