Selena Gomez once shared an amusing experience involving rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs during her relationship with Justin Bieber. Reflecting on the encounter in a 2016 interview with GQ, Gomez described how Diddy mistook her for a valet.
“There was this moment when P. Diddy handed me his valet ticket, do you know what I mean?” she recalled. When the interviewer expressed confusion, Gomez clarified, “He thought I was working as the valet lady!”
Rather than feeling offended by the mistake, Gomez found the situation hilarious. “I wasn’t upset at all. Honestly, I laughed hysterically when it happened,” she told GQ. “I understand how these things go. It doesn’t bother me.”
At that time, Gomez was dating Bieber, who shared a close relationship with Diddy, viewing him as a mentor. Although the incident happened years ago, it resurfaced in conversations following Diddy’s recent legal troubles, which have drawn renewed public attention.
Diddy was arrested on September 16 and is currently held without bail in Brooklyn. He faces serious charges, including se*x trafficking and se*xual abuse, which could result in prison time if convicted.
However, the rapper has entered a plea of not guilty, with his lawyer insisting that Diddy is “an innocent man with nothing to hide.” The arrest sent shockwaves through the music industry, especially given Diddy’s connections with many prominent figures, including Bieber.
Reports suggest Bieber is deeply unsettled by Diddy’s legal issues. “He’s been so disturbed by the news that he’s shut down emotionally,” a source told the Daily Mail. “It’s shaken him because so many key people in his life were connected to Diddy.”
Bieber had collaborated with Diddy as recently as September 2023, appearing on The Love Album: Off The Grid. Now, he’s said to be reevaluating that involvement, with sources suggesting he may not have agreed to the project if he’d known about the allegations.
For Gomez, the awkward valet mix-up feels like a distant memory from a different era. At the time, Diddy was a major industry force, while Gomez was still best known for her roles on Disney Channel. Since then, Gomez’s career has taken off.
Though she made a brief return to Disney with Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, she has found even greater success in music and television, especially with her acclaimed role in Only Murders in the Building.
