Exploring JD And Usha Vance’s Parenting Journey With their Kids

Vance and his wife, Usha, keep their three children—Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel—out of the public eye, sharing only occasional glimpses online

Ohio Senator JD Vance has become a central figure in the 2024 election, having been named as Donald Trump’s running mate. Beyond politics, Vance shares a quieter personal life with his wife, Usha Vance, and their three children.

Despite his public stature, the couple has largely kept their family out of the spotlight. Their children — Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel — have been sheltered from media attention, with only occasional glimpses shared online.

During his speech, Vance acknowledged the emotional weight of being away from his family on special occasions

One of the rare moments Vance opened up about fatherhood came during a Senate session in February 2024. According to The Hill, he addressed the chamber with a personal reflection, noting that he had missed celebrating his second son’s fourth birthday. “This is something very close to my heart,” Vance remarked, acknowledging the emotional weight of his absence on such a meaningful occasion.

In a heartfelt gesture, Vance apologized to his son directly, stating his regret for missing the birthday dinner. He went on to read aloud from a children’s book for six minutes, revealing a glimpse of his deep affection for his children. The public reading offered a rare window into Vance’s family life, highlighting his tender bond with his kids.

JD and Usha’s parenting journey began in June 2017, when they welcomed their first child, Ewan. Megyn Kelly, the podcast host, shared the news on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “Ewan Blaine Vance was born on June 4th. Congratulations, @JDVance1 and Usha! He’s beautiful.” In a 2017 NBC News interview, Usha disclosed that the couple learned Ewan’s gender early in the pregnancy, explaining that JD had been too excited to wait.

Their second son, Vivek, was born in February 2020. During the February 2024 Senate session, Vance acknowledged Vivek’s birthday by reading from Dr. Seuss’s Oh, The Places You’ll Go! and even replaced the last verse with Vivek’s name. He explained that he wanted his son to see the moment later, saying, “Maybe you can watch this at home,” and adding, “Daddy loves you very much.”

The couple welcomed their youngest, Mirabel, in December 2021. Vance shared the news through Instagram, calling their daughter a cherished early Christmas gift. “Everyone, please meet Mirabel Rose Vance, our first girl. Mama and baby are both doing great, and we’re feeling especially grateful this Christmas season,” he wrote, alongside a photo of himself, Usha, and their newborn.
