In 2007, the global media condemned Britney Spears’ choice to shave her head as a childish breakdown. However, in her bestselling 2023 memoir, “The Woman In Me,” she clarified that this act was a deliberate rebellion against the negative comments about her body that had plagued her since her teenage years.
At that moment, most observers failed to recognize the incident as a heartbreaking chapter in her life. Consequently, the paparazzi relentlessly pursued the “Gimme More” singer while she shaved her head, treating her with scorn.
When leaving the salon, a photographer inquired about her shocking decision, and she candidly replied, “Because of you,” as reported by New York Magazine. After enduring years of negativity, Spears thought she had found hope in her now ex-husband, Sam Asghari.
In “The Woman In Me,” she recounted feeling an immediate connection with Asghari the moment he appeared on the set of her 2016 music video for “Slumber Party.” According to The Independent, she praised the model’s stability, even referring to him as a “gift from God.”
Interestingly, Asghari had a positive interpretation of her shaved head. “Now my husband, Hesam, tells me that it’s a whole thing for beautiful girls to shave their heads,” Spears noted. “It’s a vibe, he says — a choice not to play into ideas of conventional beauty,” as stated in Newsweek. He also supported another controversial choice made by Spears.
Following the end of her 13-year conservatorship in 2021, Britney Spears began sharing provocative photos on Instagram. In her memoir, the pop star acknowledged that many people were puzzled by her decision.
Nonetheless, she expressed that they would adopt a more compassionate view if they understood how empowered she felt by sharing images that reflected her self-confidence after years of being photographed by others, often without her consent.
While Spears hoped the public could relate to her feelings, her children, Sean and Jayden Federline, struggled to understand their mother’s motivations behind sharing such images.
During a 2022 interview with the Daily Mail, their father, Kevin Federline, revealed that the boys were uncomfortable with her online behavior, to the point where they didn’t want to attend her wedding to Sam Asghari. Despite this, Asghari openly defended his wife.
In an Instagram Story, the fitness trainer explained that it is common for teenagers to feel embarrassed by their parents. He contended, “Eventually, if not already, they will [realize] their mother’s choices are harmless and an expression of newfound freedom,” as reported by The Mirror. “There is nothing to be embarrassed about, just lots of things to be proud of.” However, despite his supportive words, Asghari allegedly attempted to threaten Spears after their separation.
