Jennifer Aniston paid tribute to her late friend Matthew Perry on the anniversary of his passing. On Monday, October 18, Aniston, 55, marked the occasion with an Instagram post, captioning it “1 year ❤️🩹” and tagging the Matthew Perry Foundation, which was established by Perry’s family to support individuals battling addiction.
The post featured several photos, including a black-and-white image of her and Perry from their early Friends days, a touching scene of Perry kissing her forehead at Central Perk, and a solo picture of him looking joyful and healthy.
Aniston also shared a group photo with their co-stars—Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer—embracing each other before the series finale. Perry, who was 54, passed away last year at his Los Angeles home in an incident initially described as an apparent drowning. Two months later, the autopsy confirmed that acute ketamine effects played a role in his death.
Following his passing, Aniston and her Friends castmates expressed their sorrow in a statement to PEOPLE, describing their devastation. They said they were “more than just castmates” and likened their connection to family. “There is so much to say, but for now, we need time to grieve this unimaginable loss,” the statement read.
Aniston later wrote a personal tribute on Instagram, reflecting on the overwhelming emotions she experienced after Perry’s death. She described the deep bond shared among the six cast members, saying their relationship became a chosen family that shaped their personal and professional lives in profound ways.
She also revealed a sentimental text Perry had sent her, accompanied by a black-and-white photo of the two reading a script, where she could be seen laughing. Perry’s message read, “Making you laugh just made my day. It made my day :).”
In her heartfelt message, Aniston expressed how much she misses him. “Matty, I love you so much. I know you’re at peace now, free from pain. I talk to you every day… sometimes I can almost hear you say, ‘Could you BE any crazier?’ Rest, little brother. You always made my day…” Aniston and the other Friends cast members have actively supported the Matthew Perry Foundation since its inception.
On Giving Tuesday last year, she encouraged her followers to contribute to the foundation through her Instagram Stories. “Please join me and Matty’s family in supporting his foundation, which helps those struggling with addiction 🤍,” she urged. She added that Perry would have been touched by the outpouring of love, saying, “He would have been grateful for the support.”
