Details about Brian Austin Green’s breakup with Megan Fox have emerged as he reflects on their relationship’s conclusion. The couple was married for a decade and together for 16 years before separating in 2020.
During an appearance on Tori Spelling’s misSPELLING podcast on October 29, the Beverly Hills, 90210 star openly discussed the challenges they faced toward the end of their time together.
Spelling recalled Green mentioning how his chewing annoyed Fox, saying, “It annoyed Megan when you chewed because she thought she could hear it.” This recollection resonated with her since her daughter now voices similar complaints.
“I remember thinking at the time, like, ‘How bad could it be? She loves him. Why like — that really bothers her?’ But now my daughter’s like, ‘Mom, I can hear you chewing,’ and I always think of you. I’m like, ‘God,’” Spelling added.
Green responded, “It’s an age thing maybe. I don’t know. I know it just always bothered her.” Reflecting on their relationship, he remarked, “I honestly think that the chewing thing was just like, she’d gotten to the point where things just weren’t great, so I was just… It was… Everything was annoying her. Which happens in relationships. I get it.”
He elaborated, “You kinda get to that point where you’re like, God, just the way you’re shuffling your feet right now, the way you’re putting that toast in the toaster is just driving you crazy.
It’s all that stupid little stuff, you know.” This sentiment highlights the gradual decline in his relationship with Fox, with whom he shares three sons: Noah, 10, Bodhi, 9, and Journey, 6.
According to Green, this realization led to a crucial decision: “That, to me, is when you have to choose between going, okay, we either are gonna go into therapy and we’re gonna try and find, like, our connection and figure out what’s going on now, or these things are gonna sink us.”
In May 2020, the couple announced their separation, a decision Green disclosed in a heartfelt episode of his podcast. He shared their efforts to cross the distance in their relationship and how they had been trying to figure out their lives apart. “Since the end of the year, we’ve really been trying to be apart and figure out what life is now.
It’s a big chance for both of us,” he noted. He also emphasized that their separation was not due to infidelity, addressing rumors surrounding Fox’s connection with Machine Gun Kelly.
The actress filed for divorce in November 2020, just days after debuting her new relationship with the rapper at the American Music Awards. Since then, they have been together, with Machine Gun Kelly proposing in January 2022, though their engagement status remains unclear.
Green has also moved on and found love with Sharna Burgess, a former Dancing with the Stars contestant. The couple welcomed their son, Zane, in 2022. He shared that co-parenting with Fox and his current fiancée has been smooth, as they all function as “one big family.”
“We do share so much, and she now shares so much with Sharna, and they have an amazing connection and friendship and mutual respect and love for each other because of that,” Green explained during his appearance on Whine Down with Jana Kramer last year.
Burgess echoed this sentiment, saying, “[Megan’s] very much a part of our life, and we’ll always be connected because of the kids. So we are all a family,” adding that “there’s no bad feelings there.”
