Feeling confident about their upcoming wedding, Jutes and his fiancée Demi Lovato are savoring this exciting chapter in their lives. Engaged since December 2023, the couple is prioritizing enjoyment over haste as they approach the planning phase.
Jutes shared with PEOPLE, “We’re not trying to stress ourselves out. I feel like a lot of weddings can be stressful and very quick, so we’re on it, but we’re also taking our time, and we’re just enjoying being engaged. We’re not trying to skip engagement to get right to the wedding. We just want to bask in it and soak it up. We’ll be married forever, so we want to enjoy every step.”
Currently working on his debut album, Jutes fondly remembers meeting Lovato while collaborating in the studio on her record, Holy Fvck. Nearly three years later, he appreciates the natural way they connected.
He noted, “[It’s] so rare nowadays. I think she even told her friends, ‘It’s been a while since I’ve seen one in the wild’ or something like that, because we were just meeting in real life. It wasn’t like we were set up on a date; we were just meeting to write. It was platonic, focused on creating music together. That was the coolest way to bond and become friends.”
Lovato, who identifies with she/they pronouns, expressed an immediate attraction to Jutes. In a September interview with Teen Vogue, she mentioned that she “instantly had a crush” on him after their initial encounter. “I live and breathe for our connection,” she stated, later adding, “Everything I do, I wish I was with him. I see my future with him. I see growing old with him.”
Jutes reciprocated those feelings but initially sought to maintain professionalism during their early interactions. He reflected, “I knew she was special, and I was surprised at how comfortable and close I felt with her so quickly, but I didn’t even think it could be more than friends. In my mind, I was like, ‘Oh, I’m a songwriter.’
It didn’t even cross my mind. Then, after writing a few more songs, going to concerts together, and gradually talking more, we started hanging out more often, and one thing led to another,” he smiled.
Although he didn’t fully acknowledge his feelings at first, he realized, “I really liked being around this person. This person really gets me. I felt like I already knew her. It was easy and nice.”
Since then, the couple has been each other’s greatest supporters. Jutes attended a special screening of Lovato’s documentary, Child Star, in September, while Lovato showered him with affection on social media leading up to his first-ever sold-out headlining show.
In an Instagram story, she shared, “Wishing I was at my baby’s show tonight,” referring to Jutes’ performance at the Moroccan Lounge in Los Angeles. She continued, “My love, you never cease to amaze me. I am constantly blown away by you, and I couldn’t be prouder! You’re incredible, and I love you sooooo much! Have the best time tonight. You’re gonna crush it!!!”
