Kristin Scott Thomas recently revealed that she has married, confirming the news during an appearance on Ruth Rogers’ Ruthie’s Table 4 podcast. The 64-year-old actress shared that she tied the knot with John Micklethwait, 62, the editor-in-chief of Bloomberg. Rogers introduced the topic by mentioning Thomas’ recent marriage and the joy the couple is experiencing.
In their conversation, Thomas discussed her role on the Apple TV+ series Slow Horses and reflected on the passage of time, noting how much can happen in the span of a few years. “We’ve all been through so much on this job, with people coming and going, marriages, divorces, births, and sadly, deaths,” she remarked.
She also mentioned the weddings that took place among the cast and crew, including her own. “We had Jack’s wedding to Saoirse Ronan, and then there was mine,” she added. The actress then opened up about the details of her wedding, which took place in Rutland, England, Micklethwait’s family’s hometown.
She spoke fondly of the traditional British meal, including coronation chicken, and shared a deeply sentimental gift she received from her sister. “My sister compiled all the family recipes my mother had collected, from my great-grandmother in Scotland to others from around the world,” Thomas explained. “She scanned them all, created a book with photos, and gifted us all a copy.”
Reports from The Independent last month revealed that the couple had a private wedding in September, attended by just their families. Thomas and Micklethwait had reportedly been in a relationship for five years before tying the knot.
A friend of the couple described them as “a perfect match,” praising their intelligence, wit, and mutual devotion. “Everyone is thrilled that they’ve married after a beautiful five-year romance,” the friend added.
Though Thomas rarely discusses her private life, she has briefly touched on her relationship with Micklethwait in the past. When asked about it in December 2023, she told The Financial Times, “I’m not going to talk about him. I’m talking about me.”
Micklethwait, who has been Bloomberg’s editor-in-chief since 2015, previously served as editor-in-chief of The Economist for nine years before his current role. Thomas was previously married to French obstetrician François Olivennes from 1987 to 2005. She shares three children—daughter Hannah Olivennes, 36, and sons Joseph Olivennes, 33, and George Olivennes, 24—with her ex-husband.
Best known for her role in the 1994 film Four Weddings and a Funeral, Thomas also earned an Oscar nomination for her performance in The English Patient (1996). Her career includes remarkable roles in The Horse Whisperer (1998), Random Hearts (1999), and Keeping Mum (2005).
