Prince William’s love for Taylor Swift is well known, with his public enthusiasm for the pop star evident in his appearance at this summer’s Eras tour in London.
While he displayed his Swiftie side with some impressive dance moves alongside Princess Charlotte and Prince George during a July concert, the Prince of Wales brought that same energy to South Africa this week, sporting a sweet friendship bracelet.
Dressed in a sharp navy suit with a green floral tie for a panel discussion on November 5 about his Earthshot Prize, William’s outfit was complemented by a blue-and-green beaded bracelet.
The bracelet, which spelled out “PAPA” in white beads with gold lettering, was a thoughtful gift from Princess Charlotte, made specially for her dad to wear during his trip.
Earlier that day, the Prince paired the bracelet with a more casual look of a khaki jacket and green chinos as he visited Table Mountain National Park with Robert Irwin, the son of the late Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin, who serves as a global ambassador for the Earthshot Prize.
While in South Africa, William, traveling without his wife, Princess Kate, wore the bracelet to several events on November 4, including a rugby game with South African students and a meeting with the Earthshot Prize Climate Leaders Youth Program.
William isn’t the first royal to be spotted wearing a homemade friendship bracelet—King Charles wore a colorful design on his wrist during the summer, and Prince George also sported one in a photo for his 11th birthday.
In South Africa, Prince William is preparing for the Earthshot Prize awards ceremony, which will take place in Cape Town on Wednesday, November 6.
The Earthshot Prize, which aims to address environmental challenges and repair the planet by 2030, focuses on five key areas: “protect and restore nature,” “clean our air,” “revive our oceans,” “build a waste-free world,” and “fix our climate.” Each year, a £1 million prize is awarded to a winner in each category to help further their environmental efforts.
This year’s event is being held in Africa, as the continent has made massive contributions to climate action and addressing the world’s most pressing environmental challenges.
As for Wednesday’s ceremony, it remains to be seen if William will continue to wear his bracelet, perhaps pairing it with a tuxedo for the occasion.
