Chynna Phillips Baldwin recently offered insight into her and her husband Billy Baldwin’s unique living arrangement. On November 3, the 56-year-old Wilson Phillips singer shared the details in a video on her YouTube channel.
In the clip, Chynna explained how she and Billy, who have been married for almost 30 years, agreed to live in different homes and cities in California, each maintaining their own space. “We’re sort of trying something new that’s really working for me,” she said. “I’m not sure about Billster, but I’m definitely happy with how it’s going.”
She went on to describe the arrangement as “totally unstructured” and explained how it works. “I suggested to Billy, ‘Let’s do a test run where I stay in Santa Barbara, you in Beverly Hills, and we swap places. Then we can have date nights, therapy, family dinners, and fun activities like going to the beach or visiting a museum.’”
The couple, who wed in 1995, share three adult children: Jameson, 24, Brooke, 19, and Vance, 22. Chynna noted that while they have a few days together, with “sleepovers and stuff,” they avoid being “subjected to each other’s energy 24/7.” This arrangement, she added, works well for them.
Although Billy, 61, is “a bit more reticent” about the setup, Chynna said he was open to trying it. Later, during a FaceTime conversation, Chynna expressed her satisfaction with the arrangement. “I really think we’re onto something,” she told him.
“We love being together, we cherish our marriage, and we’re madly in love. But we also need time apart. It’s like we have an allergy to one another, and that’s OK. I’m sure other couples feel the same.”
Billy humorously interjected, saying, “You have the allergy. I just have an energy that sometimes alters yours.” He added, “You know, you do things that affect my energy too.”
In the video, Chynna also revealed that her faith played a part in their decision to live apart. “Where in the Bible does it say I need to live under the same roof 24/7 with my husband?” she asked. “I’m still kind to him, gentle with him, and obedient when I’m around.”
The couple has previously shared the challenges and growth in their marriage. In February, they posted a video discussing how they separated for six months but managed to resolve their issues through communication. Chynna stressed that it was “an absolute untruth” that their relationship was “lousy,” and Billy agreed.
Chynna also opened up about how her faith had caused tension in the past. “Christianity has taken a central role in my life, which has made you question if we can truly make it long-term,” she said to Billy.
Billy responded by reaffirming his love and support. “I still absolutely love you and adore you. That’s why I’m sitting here now, why we go to church together, pray together, and talk about our faith together. I’m here for you because I’m a loving, supportive husband who wants to spend the rest of my life with you, no question.”
