On Thursday, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker (D) delivered a message following the election, making it clear that anyone attempting to harm his state’s residents would face his direct opposition. He declared that anyone who seeks to “come for my people” would have to deal with him first.
Pritzker reflected on his role as an optimistic fighter for Illinois, emphasizing that despite the challenging issues raised by the election, his belief in a positive future remains strong. “People have called me a happy warrior, and I take that title seriously,” he said. “Even as I pass the tough questions this election brings, my hope for the future is as strong as ever.”
He also warned those who might seek to undermine the rights and freedoms of Illinoisans, asserting that he would not stand idly by. “If you try to take away the freedom, opportunity, or dignity of the people in this state, remember: a happy warrior is still a fighter,” he said. “You go after my people, you go through me.”
Pritzker reassured Illinoisans that no matter the outcome of the election or a potential second term under Trump, the state would continue to be a place of stability and competent leadership. “If this time turns out the same, Illinois will still be a place where governance remains steady and effective,” he said.
He also took the time to express his gratitude for the dedication of election workers and the people who voted. Pritzker echoed Vice President Harris’s sentiment in her concession speech, acknowledging that while change may take longer than expected, progress is still on the horizon.
“When you vote, you’re making a wish for the future,” he said. “Sometimes that wish comes true right away, and sometimes it’s like making a down payment on a house you may have to wait years to move into.”
