Bash and Jordan Engage in Heated Debate on 2020 and 2024 Elections

Jordan defended Trump’s position, calling the 2024 election “the greatest political comeback.”

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) appeared on CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday, where he discussed the outcomes of the 2020 and 2024 elections and what a potential second Trump administration might entail.

His appearance followed President-elect Trump’s victory and the GOP’s success in flipping the Senate while maintaining a strong presence in the House. Dana Bash challenged Jordan on the contradiction between Trump’s recent claim that the 2024 election was legitimate and his ongoing assertions about widespread fraud in the 2020 race.

Dana Bash challenged Jordan on the contradiction between Trump’s claims of fraud in 2020 and his acknowledgment of the 2024 election’s legitimacy

“In the lead-up to the 2020 election and even on election night itself, Donald Trump baselessly accused Democrats of cheating. But once the results began to favor him, those accusations stopped,” Bash pointed out. “I haven’t heard you or your colleagues claim election irregularities or fraud this time. It seems Republicans raise concerns about voting integrity only when they lose, not when they win.”

Jordan pushed back, calling the 2024 election “the greatest political comeback” and shifted the conversation to compare the Trump and Biden administrations. However, Bash pressed him once again on the issue of election integrity.

He then turned the focus to Vice President Harris’s lower vote count compared to President Biden, suggesting that Democrats should reflect on this disparity. Bash asked directly if Jordan believed the 2024 election was free and fair, to which he affirmed, “I do.”

When questioned about how this election differed from 2020, Jordan attributed the difference to the COVID-19 pandemic and concerns over mail-in voting in 2020. He claimed that there was no fraud this time because Democrats lacked a compelling platform.

“When you call people ‘fascist, racist, deplorable garbage,’ they don’t like that,” he said. Bash concluded by stating that there is no evidence of widespread fraud in the 2020 election, clarifying for the record.
