Elon Musk, the tech mogul behind Tesla and SpaceX, criticized Dana Carvey’s portrayal of him on Saturday Night Live (SNL), calling the show “dying.” Musk took to X, the platform he owns, to express his disappointment with the show’s growing disconnect from reality.
According to Musk, SNL’s most recent moves, including a controversial appearance by Vice President Harris, were a desperate attempt to meet equal airtime requirements mandated by the Federal Communications Commission.
Following Harris’s brief segment, NBC offered former President Trump an opportunity to appear on air, allowing him to request equal time as part of the federal rule for political candidates.
During the Saturday episode, SNL’s cold open featured Carvey as Musk, who humorously mimicked the tech mogul’s recent behavior at a Trump rally. Carvey exaggerated Musk’s movements by jumping and pumping his arms, which Musk had done at a rally last month. Carvey’s Musk impersonation included the line, “Check it out, dark MAGA,” poking fun at Musk’s association with certain political groups.
In a separate post, Musk dismissed Carvey’s performance, stating that “Dana Carvey just sounds like Dana Carvey,” criticizing the portrayal for lacking authenticity. Musk, who previously hosted SNL in 2021, also remarked that the show seemed “so mad” about Trump’s election victory, implying that the show’s bias was evident in their satire.
