Border Czar Under Trump Tells Critics: ‘Legal Immigrants Are Safe’

Former HUD Secretary Julián Castro labels Homan’s deportation policies as a “cowboy attitude” on border control

Tom Homan, appointed as the future “border czar” by President-elect Trump, defended his stance on immigration amid criticism of his approach. In a segment on Fox Business, host Elizabeth MacDonald highlighted recent critiques, including MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace linking Homan to “Project 2025,” former HUD Secretary Julián Castro describing him as having a “cowboy attitude” and suggesting that Trump’s deportation agenda will face strong opposition, and “The View” co-host Ana Navarro suggesting that Homan’s statement about deporting families implies that U.S. citizens could be deported as well.

MacDonald asked Homan if he agreed with Navarro’s interpretation. Homan responded emphatically, asserting that “U.S. citizens” and “legal immigrants” would not be targeted, emphasizing their safety.

During an interview with CBS’s “60 Minutes” last month, journalist Cecilia Vega asked Homan if mass deportations without family separations were feasible. Homan affirmed this, explaining, “Families can be deported together.”

He pointed out that the Biden administration had also deported families together, noting that immigration procedures include the right to due process. Homan stressed that, when a judge rules for deportation, compliance is essential, questioning the purpose of immigration laws if such rulings aren’t enforced.
