Next week, President-elect Trump is expected to announce his economic team, including picks for the National Economic Advisor, the Council on Economic Advisers, and other key roles, according to Corey Lewandowski, a senior adviser to the campaign.
During a Friday appearance on NewsNation’s “The Hill,” Lewandowski explained, “This week focused on Homeland Security, and next week will shift to rolling out the economic team.” He confirmed the timing of the announcement for the following week.
Trump’s recent announcements of his administration’s picks have stirred surprise in Washington. Among them, former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) for attorney general, former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) for director of National Intelligence, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as Secretary of Health and Human Services, and Pete Hegseth, a Fox News host, for Defense Secretary have drawn attention.
Additionally, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) was nominated for Secretary of State, and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum (R) was selected for Secretary of the Interior. Lewandowski also revealed that Scott Bessent, the founder of Square Group, and Howard Lutnick, Chair and CEO of Cantor Fitzgerald and co-chair of Trump’s transition team, are leading contenders for Treasury Secretary.
He stressed that the president-elect is focused on selecting someone who will prioritize low interest rates. “He’s looking for someone who understands how to revive the economy, keep interest rates low, and support domestic manufacturing rather than outsourcing it,” Lewandowski explained.
Both Bessent and Lutnick bring extensive Wall Street experience and are regarded as experts in their fields. Recently, Bessent earned an endorsement for the Treasury position from Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), who praised him as an “outstanding” choice.
