Eva Amurri, daughter of Hollywood actress Susan Sarandon, recently shared insights into her unique upbringing under the spotlight. In an interview with SheKnows, Amurri reflected on her mother’s early adoption of health-conscious habits, long before they became mainstream.
“My mom was a total ‘almond mom,’” Amurri recalled. “Back in the early ‘80s, she would walk to the only organic grocery store in New York City, picking up everything from there. She even thought Cheerios were junk food—that’s how ‘almond mom’ she was.”
The phrase “almond mom” gained popularity after Yolanda Hadid made controversial remarks on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, advising her daughter Gigi to eat just a few almonds. This moment sparked widespread discussion about the term, which has since become associated with restrictive or overly health-conscious eating habits.
Amurri also mentioned in the same interview that her mother, despite her good intentions, now sends “disgusting cereal” to Amurri’s children, who refuse to eat it. “I had to stop being polite about it,” Amurri said, explaining how she had to set boundaries with her mom’s well-meaning but unwanted gifts.
Amurri, who has three children with her ex-husband Kyle Martino, shares a more relaxed approach to feeding her kids. In contrast to her mother’s strict food rules, Amurri encourages her children to trust their own appetites. “My 4-year-old will eat half of an ice cream and say, ‘I think I’m done,’” she shared. “He stops when he’s full, which I think is because I’m so laid-back about it.”
