Apple Martin, the daughter of Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin, found herself at the center of online criticism after being playfully labeled a “mean girl” for photobombing another debutante’s picture at Le Bal des Débutantes. However, Aliénor Loppin de Montmort, the French debutante from the viral clip, has come to Apple’s defense.
Speaking to People on Thursday, Loppin de Montmort dismissed the backlash, stating that Apple, 20, “doesn’t deserve any of the negativity she’s receiving.” She praised the Vanderbilt University student as “genuinely the nicest girl ever” and emphasized Apple’s kindness toward everyone at the event.
The viral moment captured Loppin de Montmort posing in her elegant black gown when Apple entered the frame and struck several playful poses. Although interrupted, Loppin de Montmort simply continued her walk without issue.
Apple also drew attention at the prestigious ball for an interaction with her date, Count Leo Henckel von Donnersmarck, during which she was seen rolling her eyes while they spoke. Despite the public speculation, representatives for Paltrow and Martin have not commented on the incident.
Chris Martin, who attended the Parisian event, shared a heartfelt moment with his daughter, enjoying a slow dance together. The evening also saw the Coldplay frontman posing for a rare photo with Paltrow, from whom he separated in 2014. The actress’s mother, Blythe Danner, and Apple’s younger brother, Moses Martin, were also present.
Apple made a striking impression at the ball, dazzling in a blue Valentino gown that captured the evening’s glamour.
