Maddox, the son of Angelina Jolie, is embarking on a similar path as his mother. During her appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday, the actress revealed her other potential career paths, noting that she is a licensed pilot and that her 23-year-old son is also following suit. “Maddox is training to be a pilot, too,” Jolie explained, adding that “he actually is a pilot now.”
The 49-year-old Oscar winner appeared barefoot during the interview after injuring her toe the day before. “I tried to find a comfortable shoe, but I just decided to not [wear any],” she told Jimmy Fallon during her first late-night television appearance in a decade.
Maddox’s passion for aviation is well-known, as Jolie previously mentioned to People that he inspired her to pursue piloting back in 2004. In a 2017 interview with the same publication, she shared that Maddox was “practicing flying,” demonstrating he was “quite capable” and had even flown solo.
In addition, Jolie briefly discussed her and ex-husband Brad Pitt’s five other children, emphasizing their wish for privacy. “They really, really want to be, especially Shiloh … private [and] not photographed,” she stated, singling out her 18-year-old daughter.
The couple, who share Pax, 21, Zahara, 19, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 16, faced a light-hearted jab from Fallon, who remarked that maintaining privacy could be challenging given their fame. Jolie responded by pointing out that “it wasn’t their choice.”
She mentioned that some of her children are interested in working “off-camera, behind the scenes.” Recently, Jolie collaborated on the Broadway adaptation of The Outsiders with Vivienne, and she has also worked on Without Blood alongside Maddox and Pax.
In November, Knox made a rare appearance with his mother at the 2024 Governors Awards in Hollywood. A source revealed to Page Six that “Angelina felt so proud having Knox by her side,” noting that he generally prefers to remain out of the public eye.
While Angelina respects her son’s desire for privacy, the insider explained, “he asked if he could join her, and of course she was thrilled that he wanted to be there.”
However, another source suggested that Pitt believed the outing was intended to “push his buttons,” especially since it occurred shortly after news broke that the former couple’s contentious winery dispute is heading to trial. Jolie and Pitt, who separated in 2016 after 11 years of marriage, were declared legally single in 2019.
