Filings Indicate Musk Spent a Minimum of $250 Million to Support Trump’s Bid

Elon Musk, the tech billionaire, has reportedly invested at least $250 million to assist President-elect Trump in his bid for the White House, as indicated by recent filings with the Federal Election Commission (FEC).

Over the course of the 2024 election cycle, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO contributed nearly $239 million, including in-kind donations, to America PAC, the super PAC backing Trump’s campaign, according to the FEC reports submitted on Thursday evening.

The records reveal that Musk made three separate $25 million contributions in the last two weeks of October. Registered with the FEC in late May, America PAC allocated resources to get-out-the-vote efforts, direct mail campaigns, digital advertising, and canvassing initiatives.

However, the super PAC implemented a controversial $1 million lottery campaign for voters in seven battleground states, with participation contingent upon signing a petition. This initiative faced public backlash and legal challenges, including a lawsuit by Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner (D) aimed at halting the lottery.

According to FEC filings, the winners of the $1 million prizes were categorized as “spokesperson consultants” by America PAC, with Musk’s total expenditure on these checks exceeding $40 million. While most of Musk’s public donations went to America PAC, he also funded another super PAC designed to moderate Trump’s position on abortion.

RBG PAC, registered with the FEC on October 16, did not disclose its donors prior to the 2024 general election. However, recent filings reveal that Musk was its sole contributor, donating $20.5 million through his Elon Musk Revocable Trust based in Austin, Texas, on October 24.

The group, named after the late liberal Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, argued that both Trump and Ginsburg shared a common view against a national abortion ban. The PAC’s website features Trump’s October 1 post on X, where he pledged to veto any national abortion ban.

On its website, the group stated, “Why did Ruth Bader Ginsburg agree with Donald Trump’s position on abortion? Because RBG believed that the federal government shouldn’t dictate our abortion laws.

Donald Trump also does not support a federal ban on abortion.” The outside organization directed its funds toward abortion-related advertisements and utilized resources for text messages, mailers, and digital marketing, as reported by the FEC.

Additionally, Musk supported the super PAC MAHA Alliance, which stands for “Make America Healthy Again” and is affiliated with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. FEC filings indicate that the group received $3 million from Musk on October 22. This organization aimed to encourage Kennedy supporters to back Trump following the independent candidate’s withdrawal from the race.

With additional FEC reports yet to be filed by super PACs and other politically active groups, it is possible that Musk’s financial contributions to pro-Trump efforts may be even higher. As per the FEC filings, Musk ranks among Trump’s largest donors in this election cycle.

Following the election, Musk frequently visited Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club in Florida, participating in discussions with world leaders and occasionally sharing his views on the president-elect’s nominee selections.

After Trump’s victory over Vice President Harris, he appointed Musk, along with former GOP primary rival Vivek Ramaswamy, to lead the newly established Department of Government Efficiency, an advisory board aimed at reducing government spending.
