Authorities are investigating the case of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, who was fatally shot on Wednesday, and they suspect the gunman has already left New York City by bus.
According to the New York Police Department (NYPD), live footage revealed that the suspect fled the scene swiftly after the shooting, initially riding uptown on a bicycle before making his way to the George Washington Bridge Bus Station.
It is believed that he boarded a bus heading to an undisclosed destination. Investigators characterize the incident, which occurred outside the hotel hosting the insurance company’s annual investor conference in midtown Manhattan, as a “brazen, targeted attack.”
The NYPD has noted that the shell casings found at the crime scene had messages inscribed on them, including the words “deny,” “defend,” and “depose.” Additionally, potential DNA evidence has been collected from the site.
These terms closely resemble the title of a 2010 book, “Delay, Deny, Defend: Why Insurance Companies Don’t Pay Claims and What You Can Do About It.” On Thursday, the department released a photo of the unmasked suspect and announced a reward of up to $10,000 for information that could lead to an arrest. The Hill has contacted the NYPD for further comments on the situation.
