An online dispute erupted between Matty Healy and Azealia Banks after she made derogatory comments about his bandmate George Daniel’s fiancée, Charli XCX. However, Healy escalated the situation by issuing a physical threat towards the rapper.
The conflict began when Banks, 33, took to X on Tuesday to state, “Charli used to be soooo pretty,” which prompted a response from Healy, 35. He replied, “Azealia, you seem to have a blind spot when it comes to your ‘reads.’”

He continued by criticizing Banks, stating, “All the women you attack seem to be culturally relevant, attractive, divisive, and NICE people. I think this makes you jealous because you’re so talented, but everything else about you is a failure. Just rap, bro.” In retaliation, Banks insulted Healy’s fiancée, Gabbriette Bechtel, claiming she “looks like Frankenstein,” and remarked, “You both look like you share needles.”
In a now-deleted post, an irate Healy responded, “Talk to me like that I’m not gonna side eye you at an awards do [sic], I’ll f–king slap you so hard I’ll get a Guinness World Record for the highest a rat some bitch calls a wig has ever flown.”
Following the shocking threat, Banks retorted by questioning, “Who incriminates himself this way? Lmfao a man could slap the s–t out of Gabi and you wouldn’t do a damn thing. You’re too busy kissing men on stage for clout.”
Shortly thereafter, Healy expressed remorse for his comments and deleted the inflammatory post. “Nah, I can’t be saying I’m gonna hit a girl—that’s insane. I’m sorry. You just can’t keep being so mean about my mates and my mrs. It’s really hurtful; it gets me well defensive,” the “Somebody Else” singer stated on X. He added, “Ok I’m gonna delete that tweet; that was not cool even if I was angry.”
However, Banks rejected the apology and criticized Healy for his controversial past, including a prior admission about enjoying porn that humiliates and brutalizes women of color. “How are you really hurt about what a bitch has to say about another when you’re okay saying you like watching porn with black women being brutalized? Are you really the n–a Charles Xbox is hanging with? My point proven,” the “New Bottega” rapper tweeted.
Banks then indicated she might pursue legal action against Healy, stating in a separate post, “Is Matty Healy in Los Angeles or London? I need to choose territory because I’ve had enough of n–s thinking my opinion is open season for them to threaten me.” She concluded with, “He’s going to pay for every last word of it because enough is enough.”
The tension between Banks and Healy dates back to May 2023, when Banks warned Taylor Swift against dating Healy. “Taylor, this guy is gonna give you scabies. He’s not on the level of powerful p–s you worked HELLA hard to build. Ugh, so many much cooler people in music to work with,” she had written on Instagram.
Swift, 34, briefly dated Healy, but they separated after just a month, with the pop star quickly moving on to Travis Kelce. While it remains uncertain if Healy harbored lingering resentment from Banks’ earlier comments, he seems to be de-escalating the situation, writing on X, “I’m just having fun with my friends on the computer :)”
In the meantime, Charli XCX has maintained a low profile amid the online drama, and her representative has not responded to Page Six’s request for comment.
