Lizzie McGuire can be considered as one of the most popular sitcoms to ever release on the Disney channel. The show has been created by Terri Minsky back in the early 2000s. It even became the first show on the channel to get a theatrical film. As a result of this huge popularity of the show, Disney has now come up with an idea to develop a reboot of this project in the form of a sequel. This comes along with the original star, that is, Hilary Duff, as well as a variety of other people enacting their respective characters.
Although pretty recently, fans came to know that this Lizzie McGuire reboot has been ruled out by Disney. Well, you guys should know that this might actually be for the best. Speaking the truth, we all know how this reboot of Lizzie McGuire had crashed into potential problems even before it was officially canceled. Even the process of filming had been completed on the first two episodes of the series. This was when Minsky stepped down in the form of a showrunner at the start of 2020.
Why Lizzie McGuire reboot cancellation was much needed
At the same time, there was a Disney representative who said that they all need to move on in a different creative direction, and this is why they are going to put a new lens on the set. Well, as for the months that followed these changes on the Lizzie McGuire reboot, it came to the knowledge of the public that the reboot of Lizzie McGuire is actually proving to be too adult for Disney Plus to handle. It included erotic scenes as well as cheating as the main plot in just a few couples of episodes.
This is why both Duff, as well as Minsky later called for the reboot of Lizzie McGuire to relocate from Disney Plus to Hulu. This is exactly how the spinoff of Love, Simon, that is, Love, Victor after Disney considered its plot and script to be too mature for them. Although, we all witnessed later that the reboot was canceled ultimately. This was when Duff took to his Instagram to talk about this unfortunate news. She explained how her only motive with the show was to create it with honesty and authenticity as to who Lizzie would actually be today.
What led to the cancellation of the reboot?
Well, if we try and predict what happened, our guesses state that Duff, as well as the creatives of Lizzie McGuire, were never able to reach out to an agreement with Disney about all the topics that were and were not of their limits. This happened even after Minsky stepped down from the role. All in all, the good thing out of this cancellation came when Duff, along with Minsky and their collaborators, did not compromise their actual plans for the Lizzie McGuire reboot. In the past, we have seen a variety of TV shows that were rebooted but did not provide satisfaction to the viewers. At least Lizzie McGuire saved us from that.
