TMNT: The Last Ronin depicts the end of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles saga. The story is set in a dystopian future around 20 years ahead of the time TMNT is set. With the rest of the turtles dead, only one Turtle remains. This idea was conceived back in 1987, only years after the series was created. But, as soon as the series got popular among fans, the idea was soon scrapped by Creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. Now about 3 decades later, the five-issue mini-series is finally coming out. Its first issue was published by IDW Publishing on October 28, 2020. The story is provided by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird with a collaboration by Tom Waltz. The illustrations are by Esau Escorza, Isaac Escorza, and Ben Bishop with colors by Luis Antonio Delgado. After the first issue got published, fans cannot wait for its next installment.
TMNT: The Last Ronin #1 Plot
In the outskirts of New York City, an unnamed turtle makes his way through the decaying sewage. Being able to talk to his dead brothers, the Ronin reaches the shore of the city. When he reaches, he makes use of Ninja stars to take out a few cameras and barbed wires. He scales the walls to reach and makes his way into the city. There he sees Hiroto’s compound between the foot-controlled city. Wanting to reach his objective, he then steaks a bike from a woman named Jones. He rides as far as he can only to crash it and cause a commotion. Fighting off cyber ninjas on his way, he infiltrates Hiroto’s headquarters. But during his fight, he is pushed out of the building by a cycloptic mouser.
Falling from a great height, Ronin is gravely injured but hurries away. As the soldiers come to check on him, Jones deliberately points them in the wrong direction. The Ronin who has made his way into the sewers is contemplating his mission. He lays down his brothers’ weapons as he misses his brothers and his father. He was just about to conduct seppuku when he passes out from blood loss. Jones arrives on the scene and identifies him to be a mutant turtle. The Ronin is in some heaven as he meets his family but soon wakes up. He was on a hospital bed overseen by an older April O’Neil. She addresses him as Michelangelo; that’s when we finally identify the last Ronin.

Hiroto Oroku
Hiroto Oroku, the grandson of Hiroko Sai “Super Shredder” now runs this version of New York. He takes credit for taking out the ninja turtles years ago and believes that none of them remains. Unlike Oroku Saki, Hiroto does not mind making use of others to do his bidding not to soil his hands. As Hiroto makes use of a cycloptic mouser to push Ronin out of the building, Ronin bleeds heavily. As Ronin is on the ground, he describes Hiroto as the bastard son of Shredder’s daughter, Karai. He still keeps his incapacitated mother in a cryopod at the top level of his tower. And he reassures her that everything is back under control after Ronin’s attack.
