When Devil May Cry Baby came, it set the anime community ablaze. Dividing the community on its take on humanity and brutality, the show immediately became anime of the year. Now the streaming is bringing us yet another Edgy anime from the past, and this one is a hidden gem unlike any. The Bastard anime on Netflix is something fans of the series have been yearning for since its inception. The series got an OVA adaptation, but it was only six episodes. And it ended when things got interesting. Suffice it to say the expectations for the anime are high. The anime is from when D&D(dungeons and dragons) and heavy metal were at the height of their success. A similar trend is also observed in pop culture, as they reference D&D and Heavy Metal here and there.
Bastard Anime
Netflix had a dip in its user base earlier this year, and its approach has changed since. They have been strict on censorship in the past, but it won’t be the case with Netflix’s Bastard. As Netflix needs to attract an audience as much as it can, Bastard will not get much in the way of censorship. And we can enjoy the ONA to its fullest.
What can we expect from anime? If you are someone who enjoys Heavy Metal and has a good amount of knowledge, the series will take your socks off. The naming convention and references are top-tier quality, and if you are someone who wants to get into the genre, maybe this anime will convince you why the 80s were the good days. The plot is a revenge story, but the worldbuilding, lore, and character-driven story are reminiscent of the old animes. Bastard, as a report, has aged well. The only complaint you will end up with is remaining that will be released later. But, if you are already hooked on the premise, you can check out the manga. However, it has yet to be finished.

What is Bastard about?
In a world similar to Sword and Sorcery, the kingdom of Metallicana is under siege from the four lords of Havoc. Pushed to the brim, the high priest has run out of options and asks his daughter to choose in his stead. He asks her to awaken one of the former lords, Havoc, inside the body of 14-year-old Luche Renren. However, he plans to rule the world again and reach his former strength. But his plans won’t go as he wishes as the world has changed since his absence, and his foes have grown in number. Between all that, he hopes to exact revenge on the dragon knight who had gone missing.
Kazushi Hagiwara is the creator of the manga. He is the writer as well as the main illustrator of the series. The new ONA adaptation is done by Liden Films and Licensed by Netflix.
