It is officially confirmed by the animation studio Bones and the creator that the iconic Mob Psycho 100 anime series has ended with the release of the latest episode of the final season. Season 3 of the much-loved anime series premiered on October 5, 2022, and the final episode of the season, as well as the series, was released on December 21, 2022.
The first season of Mob Psycho 100 aired from July 2016 to September 2016, and it was followed by the second season, which aired from January 2019 to April 2019. The third and final season of the series aired this year from October to December. Each of the seasons had twelve episodes in them.
From the release of the debut season, critics and fans have loved the series because of its brilliant animation style and loving characters. The anime series narrates the story of a young psychic boy with supernatural powers, Shigeo Kageyama, also known as Mob. The series has a comical and witty undertone to it because of the third-person commentary of the events. This makes the series even more enjoyable and entertaining!
Mob Psycho 100 Main Plot
The anime revolves around our central character, Mob, who is a shy youngster with low self-esteem and communication issues. Even though he is a powerful psychic and can vanish strong supernatural beings with just a flick of his finger, he has serious personality issues!
He meets Arataka Reigen, a witty man who is trying to make a living by providing consultation regarding supernatural occurrences and performing exorcisms. He has a full-time business, and his office is called Spirits and Such Consultation Office. But the only problem he faces is— he is not a psychic!
He had been running his business by faking everything! When he meets Mob and witnesses his psychic powers, he is struck by the idea of expanding his business and hires him as his apprentice. While doing so, he doesn’t reveal to Mob that he is just a normal human being without any supernatural powers.
Nevertheless, Reigen-San has a separate fan base, of course! He is a wonderful character who is loved by fans a lot. His special moves to fight against the supernatural are hilarious, and the way he shouts the corny name of his technique out loud cracks us up every time!
The pair then solves several supernatural events throughout the series, and it’s mostly Mob who does most of the work, but he looks up to his employer with respect.
In one of their encounters, they meet Dimple, a once powerful supernatural being who was reduced to a being just a fraction of himself after Mob exorcises him. Dimple tags along with Mob from then onwards.
As the series moves on, we encounter new interesting characters, and the boss battle toward the end of each season is so great to watch! Besides Mob and Reigan, some other notable characters that feature in the series are Katsuya Serizawa (the new member of Spirits and Such Consultation Office who is a powerful psychic but lacks self-esteem), Ritsu Kageyama (Mob’s younger brother who is a psychic too), Tsubomi (Mob’s school crush) Tome Kurata (Mob’s classmate who wants to open a cult of idolizing Mob’s greatness) and Dimple of course!
The Perfect Ending to Mob Psycho 100
Towards the end of the final episode of the third season and the series, it is shown that Reigen-San finally revealed to Mob that he had no supernatural powers from the start and he had only been faking it all so far.
We also see Mob finally confessing his feelings for Tsubomi in the end. Finally! We’ve been watching our poor guy working on his physique by joining the Body Improvement Club of his school ( I personally love the other members of the club!) and personality for so long for his crush, and seeing our boy confessing, in the end, felt so good. But sadly enough, she rejects him.
We then are taken a few years ahead when Mob has reached his senior year. He appears quite relaxed and confident and has become the Vice-President of the Body Improvement Club now. Then there’s a sequence where Mob and his friends visit Reigan San’s office to greet him on his birthday.
Fan Reaction on Mob Psycho 100 Anime’s End
Mob Psycho 100 is one of the best animes I’ve ever watched! And sadly, it’s not as popular as it should be. Many fans believe it’s highly underrated, but whoever has watched the show has loved the show for the amazing animation style, especially the action sequences, irrespective of the peculiarly shaped supernatural beings portrayed.
The show has done justice to the fans by ending the series on a happy and satisfying note. Our beloved Mob Kun finally seems to feel comfortable in his skin, and even though the anime is pretty much filled with action sequences with supernatural beings, it has always been the human side of the anime that appealed to the fans the most, at least it’s that way for me!
Seeing Mob growing up and growing out of his insecurities was overwhelming, and as fans, we cannot complain about the ending at all!
