Sofia Vergara didn’t shy away from discussing the reasons behind her divorce from Joe Manganiello, which was announced through a neutral statement last summer. In an interview with El País in January, Vergara offered a blunt explanation: “My marriage ended because my husband was younger and wanted children, while I didn’t want to be an older mother.” Vergara, now 52, has a 32-year-old son, Manolo, from her first marriage, while Manganiello, 47, has never had children.
Manganiello, however, seems to have a slightly different perspective. In a Men’s Journal cover story, he addressed the topic of starting a family, acknowledging his desire for kids but expressing frustration over how his intentions were portrayed.
He said the narrative had been “distorted,” emphasizing that their split was more about the natural drift between two people than anything else. He likened their situation to a familiar story for children of divorced parents, saying, “It’s because two people grew apart.”
Manganiello elaborated further, revealing that they tried to start a family during the first year and a half of their relationship. From the beginning, he had been transparent with Vergara about his hopes for children, and she initially appeared open to the idea. He emphasized that he had committed to staying with her regardless of the outcome. Their divorce was finalized in April, and since then, both have moved on with new relationships.
Manganiello is now dating actress Caitlin O’Connor, while Vergara has been seen with her new boyfriend, orthopedic surgeon Justin Saliman. Despite the challenges, both seem to be thriving in their personal and professional lives, with Vergara continuing her role as a judge on America’s Got Talent and Manganiello hosting Deal or No Deal Island.
