Bloom and Theroux’s engagement has now been officially confirmed. Theroux proposed in Italy while the couple was attending the Venice Film Festival for the premiere of his film Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Bloom proudly displayed her stunning engagement ring on the red carpet during the movie’s debut.

The couple’s romance began to attract attention in February 2023 when they were seen together at a Netflix event at the New York City club Zero Bond. They were joined that evening by Tan France and actress Louisa Jacobson, a colleague of Bloom’s from the HBO series The Gilded Age.
By August 2023, their relationship was further confirmed when they were photographed sharing a kiss during a date night at Manhattan’s Altro Paradiso. Their public appearances continued with photos of them leaving a gym together in New York City in October.
Theroux had previously expressed his desire for privacy in his relationships during an Esquire interview prior to their first public date. He mentioned enjoying a more private approach to romance, saying, “It’s much more fun not being in a public relationship,” and preferring to keep his personal life within the confines of their private spaces.
Before making their red carpet debut at Vanity Fair’s Oscars Party in March, Theroux accompanied Bloom as her date to her twin sister’s wedding in December 2023. They also attended Naomi Watts and Billy Crudup’s wedding in Mexico City in June 2024.
Theroux, who was previously married to Jennifer Aniston from 2015 to 2018, has frequently appeared in Bloom’s social media posts since their first mirror selfie at her sister’s wedding. Most recently, Bloom shared a photo carousel featuring the couple in August 2024.
On August 20, Theroux posted a photo of himself embracing Bloom with a kiss on her cheek against an ocean backdrop. In the lead-up to their engagement, the couple enjoyed traveling together, as highlighted by Bloom’s Instagram Stories featuring picturesque waterside locations. Theroux also mentioned to PEOPLE at the Venice Film Festival that they planned to enjoy some vacation time in addition to attending the event.
