Behind Closed Doors: Lauren Sánchez Talks About Her Simple Life with Jeff Bezos and Their Binge-Watching Habits

Despite her engagement to one of the world’s wealthiest individuals, Lauren Sánchez reveals that her life with Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is much more relaxed than their public image might suggest.

“I cherish the quiet moments at home when Jeff and I settle in to choose a show to binge-watch,” says Sánchez, 54, a philanthropist and Emmy-winning former news anchor. She is currently preparing to release her debut children’s book, The Fly Who Flew to Space.

Dividing her time between Los Angeles and Bezos’ Miami residence, Sánchez admits that choosing what to watch can be a challenge. “It takes a bit of time to agree on something,” she laughs. “Our tastes can be quite different, but I really enjoy our TV nights. They are the best.”

Sánchez’s children’s book focuses on embracing differences and achieving dreams

Their recent favorites include Baby Reindeer, Fallout, Presumed Innocent, and Severance.

However, Sánchez’s routine will soon be interrupted as she embarks on a book tour for The Fly Who Flew to Space, a project years in the making. “I’m thrilled my kids get to see me do this. They encouraged me to write this book for years, and I finally made it happen,” says Sánchez, a mother of three.

She has Nikko Gonzales, 23, from her previous relationship with retired football player Tony Gonzales, and teenage children Evan and Ella with her ex-husband, Hollywood agent Patrick Whitesell.

The book tells the story of Flynn, a fly who struggles academically but dreams of becoming an astronaut. Her journey begins when she accidentally boards a rocket and embarks on an extraordinary adventure.

“One of the main themes is that everyone learns in their own way, and difficulty in school doesn’t mean you can’t achieve your dreams,” Sánchez told PEOPLE when exposing her book’s cover.

Sánchez has openly discussed her battle with dyslexia and how being properly diagnosed in college transformed her life. “That’s the essence of the story,” she explains. “It’s okay to be different. The world will eventually support you if you remain curious.”
