For many, Kendall Jenner is simply the second-youngest of the KarJenner clan. To my team at The Cut, she’s the woman who famously wandered the Louvre without shoes. To others, she’s a supermodel gracing the runways of Chanel, Givenchy, and Marc Jacobs. However, on a recent episode of the Anything Goes podcast, Jenner shared with host Emma Chamberlain that even with her wealth and fame, the modeling world has its share of challenges.
Jenner reflected on her career with a sense of gratitude, acknowledging the “incredible” opportunities she’s had, like wearing archival Givenchy pieces from 1999. Yet, the 28-year-old confessed to feeling “overworked” and encountering “cutthroat” behavior within the industry.
She described moments of being overlooked for jobs and feeling inadequate as a result. The modeling life has also meant long stretches away from loved ones, with the loneliness compounded by solo travels during her teenage years, sometimes for months at a stretch. “It is very lonely … I’ve had really dark nights hysterically crying myself to sleep,” she admitted.
While Jenner’s revelations add to the ongoing conversation about the modeling industry’s often harsh realities, especially for young women, she has found solace in simple pleasures. A relaxing bath has become her go-to remedy for alleviating stress and anxiety.
