Rod Stewart recently addressed rumors surrounding his marriage, shutting down the claims of any trouble between him and his wife, Penny Lancaster. After several outlets published reports suggesting tension in their relationship, the 79-year-old rock icon set the record straight on Instagram on August 29.
“We felt it was important to clarify things,” Stewart wrote in his post.
“There is no issue between Penny and me, and certainly no disagreement over where we should live. In fact, it’s quite the opposite,” he added. Stewart then responded to a specific rumor that the couple, who tied the knot in June 2007, was arguing about whether to move permanently from Los Angeles to the U.K.
“We actually moved back to the U.K. a year ago but are lucky enough to have homes in different countries that we enjoy visiting,” Stewart explained. He went on to clarify that while they initially considered selling their Los Angeles property, their time spent there this summer during his Las Vegas residency made them realize they wanted to keep the house.
Additionally, Stewart pointed out that two of his eight children still reside in their Los Angeles home. “After 27 amazing years, Penny and I are more in love than ever. Trust me, there’s no trouble in paradise,” he concluded, signing the statement as “Rod ‘a very lucky man’ Stewart.”
Stewart and Lancaster, 53, first crossed paths in 1999 after Stewart’s breakup with ex-wife Rachel Hunter. Reflecting on their meeting, Stewart told PEOPLE in 2021, “Rachel ended things with me on a Monday, and I was devastated. But that same Saturday, I met Penny at the Dorchester Hotel in London.”
Despite advice from his bandmate Carmine to take it slow after his nine-year marriage ended, Stewart found love with Lancaster. “She healed my heart in more ways than one,” he shared at the time.
The unfounded rumors came just two months after Stewart and Lancaster celebrated their 17th wedding anniversary. On June 17, the day after their anniversary, the musician reposted a photo of him and Lancaster shared by his son Alastair’s girlfriend, Eloise Darlington, captioned, “Celebrating 17 years of love.” Stewart added his own reflection, proudly stating, “25 years together and no red flags.”
