Reese Witherspoon appears to have embraced a new chapter in her life post-divorce from Jim Toth, as she was recently seen with a potential new companion. The Oscar-winning actress, 46, was spotted in New York City on July 30 alongside German financier Oliver Haarmann. The duo was reportedly on a date at the West Village eatery L’Artusi, arriving in the city by helicopter on July 29 before dining at the trendy spot the next day.
Dressed in a chic sleeveless black maxi dress with a high neckline, Reese accessorized with a gold chain necklace and black and nude heeled pumps. Haarmann complemented her look with navy trousers and a crisp white button-down shirt. However, sources close to the actress have emphasized that she and Haarmann are merely “friends” and that Reese is “taking things slow” in the dating scene. Her primary focus remains on her career and her son, which are her top priorities.
In March 2023, Reese announced the end of her 11-year marriage to Jim Toth, with whom she shares 11-year-old son Tennessee James Toth. In a joint statement shared on Instagram, Reese expressed that the decision to divorce was made with “care and consideration” and that their son’s well-being remains their utmost concern as they move forward with “love, kindness, and mutual respect.”
Oliver Haarmann, a founding partner of Searchlight Capital Partners and a minority owner of the NHL’s New York Islanders, shares a similar past as Reese, having previously been married to financier Mala Gaonkar, with whom he has two children.
Following her divorce, Reese candidly discussed the speculation surrounding her separation in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar. She expressed gratitude for being able to personally share the news, finding it more “authentic” to communicate directly with her fans. Reese emphasized her commitment to honesty and vulnerability during this transitional period in her life.
