50 Cent kicked off the year with a vow of celibacy, and now he’s sharing some unexpected perks of the lifestyle. During a recent appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert (September 4), the host pressed him about his commitment to abstinence. Rather than giving a direct answer, 50 responded, “When you calm down, you can focus. It’s been good for me.”
Colbert then asked why he was accumulating so much wealth without the usual biological “motivations” in play. 50 Cent’s reply hinted at the challenges of relationships: “That’s when things get complicated—people come into your life for different reasons.”
According to 50, celibacy offers distinct advantages when it comes to dating. “When you go on a date and you’re not interested in anything physical, you can see people for who they really are,” he explained. “You can say, ‘Girl, you’re gorgeous, but you don’t have anything going on upstairs.’”
While he’s open to dating, marriage isn’t in his plans. When asked if he ever envisioned tying the knot, 50 quipped, “I’m free, not a ‘happy hostage.’ I’ve made mistakes, but that’s not one of them.”
At the start of the year, 50 announced his abstinence on Instagram, explaining that it was part of his strategy to stay laser-focused on his ambitious goals. “My new idea is so big, I can’t afford distractions,” he wrote. “I’ve been meditating and staying on track.”
However, his celibacy chapter seems to have closed. “I did it for as long as I could,” he told Us Weekly recently. In the meantime, 50’s been busy—he’s launched his debut novel The Accomplice and is advancing his three-phase plan for Shreveport, where his G-Unit Film & Television Studios are based.
