Simone Biles was thrilled as she cheered on her husband, Jonathan Owens, who scored his first touchdown with the Chicago Bears. On Sunday, September 8, Owens, playing as a safety at age 29, recovered a blocked punt and ran the football into the end zone during his team’s match against the Tennessee Titans.
Biles, age 27, took to X (formerly Twitter) to express her excitement over Owens’ touchdown during the Bears’ home opener. She wrote, “I ALMOST HAD A HEART ATTACK” in response to a tweet from Sunday Night Football on NBC celebrating the play.
The sports program posted, “Jonathan Owens scoop and score on the blocked punt!” and tagged Biles. They also asked, “How ya feeling, @Simone_Biles? 😏” Owens’ touchdown, the Bears’ first of the season, closed the gap between the Bears and the Titans from 17-3 to 17-10 in the third quarter. The Bears eventually secured a 24-17 victory over the Titans.
Such a play is quite rare for Owens’ position, making the moment even more special for both him and Biles. Throughout their relationship, Biles and Owens have consistently supported each other’s athletic endeavors. In return, Owens managed to take a brief break from preseason training to attend the 2024 Paris Olympics and watch Biles compete.
In an interview with PEOPLE in July, Owens shared his enthusiasm for supporting his Olympic gold medalist wife. “It’s incredibly exciting to see all the effort she puts in before the games and how she handles the media and challenges,” he said. He further praised Biles, noting, “Her training mindset and consistency are truly impressive. That’s what stands out—her dedication and reliability.”
