Glen Powell has recently spoken about his split from Gigi Paris earlier this year. In a conversation with Business Insider, the actor touched on his new romantic comedy Anyone But You and addressed the speculation surrounding his rumored relationship with co-star Sydney Sweeney, known for her role in Euphoria.
Powell acknowledged that his breakup with Paris impacted his ability to embrace the chemistry he shared with Sweeney on screen and during the movie’s promotion. “The only challenge in leaning into that chemistry was that I was going through a real breakup while on the promotional tour,” he said.
He further elaborated on his emotional state, mentioning that he was trying to steer his feelings during the split from someone he deeply cared about. He pointed out that Sweeney found it easier to connect to the role since she is in a happy, committed relationship.
Though the couple never publicly confirmed their split, fans speculated about their breakup after Paris shared a cryptic Instagram post hinting at moving on. The model posted a video of herself walking with the caption: “Know your worth and onto the next.”
Following that, Paris shared a friend’s Instagram Story featuring a dinner party, with the caption: “New beginnings.” This, coupled with her unfollowing Powell on Instagram, according to UsWeekly, fueled the rumors.
Paris’s social media activity sparked support from fans, with many encouraging her to move forward. One commenter praised her, writing: “Good for you, someone else will treat you better,” while another cheered her on with: “You deserve better #TeamGigi.”
Rumors about Sweeney being romantically linked with Powell intensified, but in August, Sweeney dismissed the speculation during an interview with Variety. She explained, “It’s a rom-com. That’s what people want!”
Sweeney emphasized that she and Powell weren’t affected by the rumors, noting that they have mutual respect and fun working together. She added that the chemistry people saw was purely part of the movie: “Fans want it. It’s fun to give it to them.” Powell also shared his thoughts on the rumors, describing them as unsettling and unfair. In their December issue, he told Men’s Health that he’s coming to terms with this kind of attention being part of his career now.
Just last week, Powell praised the chemistry between him and Sweeney, calling it essential for a successful romantic comedy. “Sydney makes it so easy to have great chemistry,” he told Entertainment Tonight. Referring to Sweeney as “awesome,” Powell remarked that working on the movie felt like living in a rom-com because pretending to fall for her came naturally.
Sweeney, 26, has engaged Chicago businessman Jonathan Davino since February 2022. In an interview with Cosmopolitan that same month, she revealed she avoids dating people in the entertainment industry to maintain a sense of normalcy. “I don’t date actors or musicians… I can just be normal Syd that way, and it’s easiest,” she explained.
