Jamie Lee Curtis had high praise for her The Last Showgirl co-star, Pamela Anderson. “She’s truly a remarkable person,” Curtis, 65, shared with PEOPLE at the Toronto International Film Festival on Friday, Sept. 6. “Pamela is incredibly intelligent, spiritually deep, and soulful. And of course, stunning!”
In The Last Showgirl, Anderson, 57, portrays Shelley, a Las Vegas showgirl reimagining her life after her longtime show ends. Curtis, who plays Shelley’s close friend Annette, mentioned that she accepted the role because Anderson was involved.
In fact, Curtis had another project lined up and arranged her schedule specifically to film The Last Showgirl so she could work alongside Anderson. “I admire how she navigates the nonsense of show business, standing firm in her values and saying, ‘I won’t play by your rules,’” Curtis added. “I respect her immensely for that.”
Anderson’s rise to fame came through her modeling career, especially her appearances in Playboy. However, she also faced intense public scrutiny during her three-year marriage to Tommy Lee, particularly after a stolen sex tape was leaked. Anderson openly discussed these experiences in her 2023 memoir Love, Pamela and in the Netflix documentary Pamela, a love story.
Curtis revealed on the red carpet that she had watched Anderson’s documentary, which was produced by her son Brandon Lee. “Pamela has been refreshingly candid about how society has treated her… But I hope audiences will gain a deeper respect for her talents after seeing this movie.”
Directed by Gia Coppola and written by Kate Gersten, The Last Showgirl also features Dave Bautista, Brenda Song, Kiernan Shipka, and Billie Lourd. This film marks Anderson’s first major leading role in years, following her appearance in the 2022 horror film Alone at Night.
Running from Sept. 5–15, the Toronto International Film Festival will showcase The Last Showgirl, which will then be featured in the main competition at the San Sebastián International Film Festival from Sept. 20–28. As of now, the film has no distributor or release date.
