Daisy Edgar-Jones is acknowledging the impressive on-screen chemistry she shared with Jacob Elordi. During a Q&A session at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on Saturday, September 7, Edgar-Jones spoke about their dynamic in the 1950s drama On Swift Horses, which had its world premiere at the festival. She noted, “Creating chemistry with Jacob is effortless due to his inherent charisma.”
The 26-year-old actress highlighted how the film’s focus on “the interpersonal dynamics” and “relationships” between their characters is portrayed with subtlety and intelligence. She praised the script for its poetic quality and the depth of its subtext.
Edgar-Jones also appreciated director Daniel Minahan’s approach to filming, particularly how it allowed them to build rapport and explore their characters’ early interactions. She mentioned that their initial scenes together were shot first, which was advantageous given their characters’ eventual separation.
Jacob Elordi, 27, shared his enthusiasm for embodying his “cowboy” role and agreed that their on-screen chemistry was evident right from the start. He recalled the audition process as more of a workshop, where they engaged in activities like dancing and playing cards, which helped establish their connection early on.
On Swift Horses, adapted from Shannon Pufahl’s 2019 novel, centers on newlyweds Muriel (Edgar-Jones) and Lee (Will Poulter) as they start a new life following his return from the Korean War. Their stable life is disrupted by Lee’s charismatic younger brother, Julius (Elordi), a gambler with hidden secrets.
The official synopsis reveals a tumultuous love triangle that uncovers as the three characters attempt to build a new life in California. However, their pursuit of the American Dream is shattered when Julius vanishes, heading to Las Vegas. Muriel then explores a secret life, indulging in horse racing and discovering an unexpected romance.
