Kelly Clarkson has been giving fans a glance through her personal world. Recently, the American Idol star discussed how her ability to connect with guests and audiences on her Emmy-winning talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, which returns for its sixth season on September 23, stems from her willingness to be open.
In an exclusive interview with E! News cohost Keltie Knight, airing tonight, September 12, at 11 p.m., Kelly explained, “Being vulnerable personally comes naturally to me. However, when it involves discussing other people’s lives, it becomes challenging. I have to carefully consider whether it’s appropriate to share certain things, like details about my children.”
Kelly applies this sense of privacy to all her relationships as well. “When dealing with my own heartbreak,” she said, “there are some aspects I’m open about and others I keep private. It’s not about discomfort but about respecting the involvement of others and finding the right balance.”
Kelly, who has two children—River Rose, 9, and Remington Alexander, 7—with her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock, whom she divorced in 2020 after nearly seven years of marriage, noted that her split provided inspiration for her 2023 album, Chemistry.
In January, she shared with People, “I’m incredibly grateful for having such a healthy outlet. Dealing with the depression and grief of a divorce is incredibly tough, and having a way to channel those overwhelming emotions is a true blessing.” Kelly also believes her genuine nature resonates with her audience beyond just her vulnerability.
She remarked to E!, “I consider myself to be quite ordinary, and I think that relatability is what attracts people. I’m not different from anyone you might know.” According to Kelly, there’s a universal connection among people that transcends differences.
“We share more similarities than differences,” she said. “We all have our moments of showcasing our talents and strengths, but we also have times when we want to listen, learn, and bring a touch of humor into our lives.”
