Emotions ran high during Wednesday’s America’s Got Talent Semi-Finals, as Terry Crews became deeply moved by a performance that hit close to home. The 56-year-old host was profoundly affected by Sky Elements’ touching drone show, which portrayed the heartbreaking experience of losing a child. This theme resonated with Crews and his wife, Rebecca King-Crews, as they have tragically suffered three miscarriages.
Reflecting on the powerful performance, Crews told People: “My wife and I have been through this, we know what it’s like to lose a child.” He went on to say, “The dedication in the performance was meaningful and provided a way to process these emotions. I felt the show truly needed this moment.”
Crews expressed that the semi-final had a perfect balance: “We had everything—laughter, heartfelt moments, dancing, and fun. It all came together beautifully.” Having been married since 1989, Terry and Rebecca share five children: Naomi, 37, Azriél, 33, Tera, 26, Wynfrey, 21, and Isaiah, 19.
When it comes to coping with life’s challenges, Terry shared his personal strategy: “I often listen to music to help process my emotions. It allows me to reflect on everything I’m feeling.” He also emphasized the importance of communication with Rebecca. “We talk it through, just deep conversations—no distractions. It’s amazing how much that can help,” he added.
Crews recalled how their long-lasting marriage almost didn’t happen, as he initially struggled to move out of the friend zone. Rebecca once joked in 2018: “He was too nice,” while Terry admitted, “I had to earn it.” The couple has been open about their struggles, especially Terry’s battle with pornography addiction. In a 2016 Facebook video, he revealed the addiction nearly cost him his marriage. “My wife told me, ‘I don’t know you anymore; I’m leaving.’ That was my wake-up call.”
Rebecca shared how she decided to give Terry a chance to reconcile after he made significant efforts to change. “A few weeks later, I felt compelled to reach out. By then, he had sought counseling and checked himself into rehab,” she explained to Drew Barrymore in 2021. “His commitment to changing and saving our family completely surprised me.”
Approaching their 35th wedding anniversary in July, Terry offered his insight into maintaining a strong marriage: “You can’t love someone and try to control them at the same time. That’s been the key for us.” Rebecca added her own perspective, saying, “Forgiveness is essential in any relationship. Holding onto grudges makes it impossible to stay together.”
