Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck formed a powerful team in the field of filmmaking, as shared by William Goldenberg. The director of Unstoppable provided exclusive details to E! News’ Francesca Amiker about the former couple’s professionalism during the sports drama’s production. Goldenberg noted that J.Lo and Affleck remained focused solely on the film, maintaining a professional demeanor throughout.
“The primary focus was always the film,” Goldenberg stated during the Toronto International Film Festival premiere of Unstoppable on September 6. “Their personal matters were kept separate from the project. We stayed focused on achieving our goals.”
Featuring Lopez and Jharrel Jerome, Unstoppable draws from Anthony Robles’ 2012 memoir about his life as a champion wrestler born with one leg. Affleck and his long-time partner Matt Damon served as producers for the project. Goldenberg, having collaborated with Affleck and Damon on Air, felt confident working with them again.
“They were incredibly supportive and respectful,” he said. “They never interfered or overstepped. Their professionalism and storytelling skills were remarkable.” The film marked one of the final joint projects for Affleck and Lopez before their separation. They ended their two-year marriage in August, with Lopez filing for divorce.
Following their split, Affleck chose to miss the TIFF premiere, opting instead to continue work in Los Angeles and spend time with his children—Violet, 18, Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12—from his previous marriage to Jennifer Garner.
Lopez and Damon, however, attended the premiere to support the film. The “Jenny From the Block” singer made a striking appearance in a metallic Tamara Ralph gown with daring side cutouts, while Damon was dressed in a gray suit and accompanied by his wife, Luciana Damon.
