Evidence that Jennifer Lopez is moving forward with confidence continues to emerge. Following her divorce filing from Ben Affleck just over two weeks ago, Lopez made a high-profile appearance at the world premiere of their film Unstoppable at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival on September 6.
Affleck, who, along with his close friend Matt Damon, produced the film adapted from Anthony Robles’ book, did not attend the premiere. Instead, he is working in Los Angeles and spending time with his children, Violet, 18, Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12, from his previous marriage to Jennifer Garner.
Lopez, meanwhile, seemed unaffected by recent events at the TIFF event, marking her first major red-carpet appearance since parting ways with Affleck. The actress, who stars in the film with Jharrel Jerome, Bobby Cannavale, and Don Cheadle, captured attention in a striking column mirrorball dress adorned with black bows and styled her hair straight, exuding confidence on the red carpet.
Matt Damon was present at the premiere with his wife, Luciana Barroso Damon, who opted for a black halter neck gown and a relaxed updo. Before the event, Unstoppable director William Goldenberg addressed any potential discomfort regarding the film’s promotion.
In an interview with Variety published on September 6, he dismissed concerns about the former couple’s personal issues. “Everyone is professional, and their personal matters are separate from the project,” Goldenberg remarked. “I admire both of them; working with Jennifer was a dream, and Ben, whom I know better, was equally incredible.”
Lopez and Affleck have yet to publicly discuss their divorce. Recently, Lopez shared a playful Instagram post featuring a T-shirt with the message, “She’s in bloom and unbothered out of reach and at peace.”
In her divorce petition, filed on August 20—the second anniversary of their Georgia wedding—Lopez cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split. She listed April 26 as the date of separation, which occurred shortly before her appearance at the 2024 Met Gala without Affleck.
Although specific reasons for the separation haven’t been publicly detailed, Affleck hinted at their differences in Lopez’s 2024 documentary, The Greatest Love Story Never Told. He mentioned his discomfort with public scrutiny and the challenges of adjusting to Lopez’s differing views on social media presence. “It wasn’t fair to expect someone to change fundamental aspects of their life,” he said, reflecting on their differing approaches and the difficulties in finding common ground.
