Despite their reputation as one of Hollywood’s enduring couples, Nicole Kidman has clarified that her marriage to Keith Urban is far from flawless. Married in Sydney in 2006, Nicole, 57, and Keith, 56, have navigated their share of challenges, including Keith’s three-month rehab stay just months after their wedding.
Although their public displays of support and nearly 20-year union often lead to them being dubbed a “perfect couple,” Nicole is quick to dismiss the idea of perfection. “There’s no such thing as perfect,” Nicole told E! News when questioned about the concept of a “perfect couple.” In an interview with her co-star Liev Schreiber, she further emphasized her skepticism about the idea of perfection, stating, “Anything that’s presented as perfect… forget it.”
When asked about the frequent references to her and Keith as “a perfect couple,” Nicole downplayed the notion, admitting, “I don’t see any of that,” and reaffirming, “No, I don’t see that.”
Nicole has previously rejected the idea that she has the secret to a successful marriage. “We don’t want to be a pin-up couple,” she shared with Today. “We just want to be a couple that has a great life together,” adding, “Everyone has the right to their own relationship. We are just very protective of our little bubble. What works for us is what works for us.”
Keith has also shared his views, noting that he doesn’t believe in a universal formula for relationships. “I have no advice for anybody,” he told E! News, explaining, “You guys figure out whatever works for you… We’re figuring it out. You figure it out. Everybody’s different. There’s no one size fits all.”
The couple exchanged vows on June 25, 2006, at the Cardinal Cerretti Memorial Chapel in Sydney, Australia. Reflecting on their wedding day in April, Nicole recounted a memorable moment, sharing with People, “I remember being in Sydney and driving down the street with my dad, who’s obviously not around now. He was in the car with me.” She recalled the celebratory atmosphere and described the day as “one of the most emotional things in my life… It really was an extraordinary day.”
Keith has praised Nicole publicly, including a 2013 appearance on American Idol where he described her as an “extraordinary wife” and “amazing mother.” Nicole reciprocates these sentiments, stating in a 2020 interview with Today, “I’m married to a really good man. And the kids have a great father and that’s a very beautiful thing to be able to say.”
Together, Nicole and Keith are parents to two daughters, Sunday Rose, 16, and Faith Margaret, 13. Nicole also has two adopted children from her previous marriage to Tom Cruise: Connor, 29, and Bella, 31.
