Carson Daly’s son Jackson had an unforgettable experience at the VMAs, particularly enjoying his time backstage. On September 12, Daly recounted on Today how attending the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards with his 15-year-old son Jackson marked his first awards show. Daly described the backstage scene as reminiscent of an old-school Las Vegas show, complete with eye-catching sights.
“He was surrounded by everyone he admires, and the atmosphere was quite the spectacle,” Daly remarked, joking about his son’s amazement. “I had to lift his jaw off the floor a few times. It was a fantastic experience for him.” Later in the segment, Daly elaborated on Jackson’s reaction to the event, highlighting how aware his son was of the unique opportunity.
“It was incredibly fun,” Daly said, playfully mimicking Jackson’s astonished reaction. “His jaw literally dropped. During a brief moment when I stepped away to present an award, he was mingling with the young crowd and enjoying himself.”
Daly shares Jackson and his daughters Etta, London, and Goldie with his wife, Siri. In July, Daly had previously shared his excitement with PEOPLE about Jackson’s opportunity to interview golf legend Tiger Woods for NBC’s Nightly News: Kids Edition.
“The experience was unbelievable,” Daly said. “While I interviewed Tiger live on air, Jackson had his exclusive interview earlier. Despite it being early in the morning, Jackson managed to prepare his own questions and had a fantastic discussion with him.”
Daly fondly recalled that the weekend following the interview, he and Jackson had another encounter with Woods in Las Vegas.
“I was hosting an event for Tiger, and when he saw Jackson, he immediately recognized him and commented on his new haircut,” Daly shared. “Jackson was thrilled that Tiger remembered him, and now they seem to be quite friendly.”
