Right from the beginning, The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives makes it clear that no topic is too taboo. In one of the show’s opening scenes, Mayci Neeley and Taylor Frankie Paul meet to delve into their thoughts on relationships following the MomTok soft-swinging controversy. As they chat, Taylor inquires about Mayci’s relationship with her husband, Jacob Neeley.
Mayci confides, “I feel like Jacob never takes the lead when it comes to se*x.” Taylor is taken aback and questions, “Have you brought this up with him?” Mayci contemplates, “Not in detail, but maybe I should?” She adds, “But what should I do? Should I wear lingerie around the house? But that still means I’m making the first move, you know? I want him to desire me constantly.”
Taylor responds, “Exactly. If you just talk to him and say, ‘This is how I feel,’ he’ll understand.” She adds with a laugh, “Unfortunately, they can’t read our minds.” In an interview with PEOPLE before the show’s debut, Mayci also addressed another crucial aspect of marriage: finances.
She shared, “For me and my husband, it doesn’t really affect us. It might be unconventional for our culture and church, but it’s becoming more accepted in society. It was different 30 years ago, so it’s a new challenge to overcome.” She continued, “My parents thought it was odd, but it’s more normal now. My husband is back at work, finding satisfaction, and everything is working well for us.”
