The plan for Usher and Jenn Goicoechea’s wedding changed unexpectedly after the Super Bowl. In an interview with the New York Post for its “Music to My Years” video series, Usher, 45, disclosed that he and Goicoechea, 40, decided to marry spontaneously after securing their marriage license just days before the big game. “It was a last-minute decision,” Usher explained. “We opted to do it abruptly.”
The couple chose to wed at The Fast Lane, a drive-thru chapel in Las Vegas, with an Elvis Presley impersonator officiating—a feature Usher found especially appealing. The presence of his family was another highlight of the ceremony.
“It was wonderful to have my immediate family there, including my kids and my mother, Jonetta Patton,” Usher told Live with Kelly and Mark on September 8. “The kids had a great time, and the whole experience was fantastic.”
He expressed to the New York Post that the Las Vegas ceremony was “one of the easiest” he had ever experienced, adding, “I was very happy with how it all went.”
“I was truly able to savor the moment with my wife, my children, and my close family,” he noted. Photos of the event, obtained by PEOPLE, show the couple in a vintage convertible adorned with red and white flowers, with Usher’s teenage sons, Usher V, 16, and Naviyd, 15, seated in the back. The couple was also seen smiling with their loved ones after the ceremony.
Reflecting on the back-to-back Super Bowl performance and wedding, Usher shared that he had no regrets, stating, “What was already a remarkable experience was heightened by a memory I will cherish forever.”
He added, “I was thrilled to wrap up my time in Las Vegas with both the residency and the Super Bowl and to begin on a new journey with my amazing wife.”
Ahead of his Super Bowl performance, Usher had previously discussed his commitment to Goicoechea with PEOPLE. He highlighted their long-term commitment, noting that they have been together since 2019 and share two children, daughter Sovereign Bo, 3, and son Sire Castrello, 2.
“We’ve clearly committed to a lifetime together, especially for our children,” Usher said at the time. “Our marriage wasn’t surprising; it was a natural step.”
He concluded, “We will remain a part of each other’s lives forever, sharing something truly beautiful with our children. It’s not just about that; I genuinely feel I have an amazing partner whom I deeply respect.”
