Reflecting on his fleeting romance with Shannen Doherty, Brian Austin Green shared insights during a recent podcast appearance, revealing that their relationship was not initially anticipated by many.
On September 14, Green, 51, made a surprise appearance at the live taping of the “House of Halliwell” podcast, part of ‘90s Con in Florida. This event celebrated Doherty’s legacy and featured a panel with Charmed stars including Holly Marie Combs, Rose McGowan, Brian Krause, Drew Fuller, and Dorian Gregory.
Combs, 50, disclosed that she had recently learned about the closeness between Green and Doherty, who passed away this summer at 53. “She kept that from me for a long time,” Combs remarked, noting Doherty’s honesty as a trait she admired.
Green, however, remained tight-lipped about the specifics of his past relationship with Doherty. “I’m not spilling any details,” he joked, maintaining an air of mystery.
Combs commended Green, who is currently engaged to Sharna Burgess from Dancing With the Stars, for his ability to remain friends with Doherty even after their brief romantic involvement. Green humorously responded, “I’m getting a hard time about it,” prompting Combs to compliment his physique, adding, “Shannen did say you had a really nice ass.”
Green and Doherty first crossed paths on the set of Beverly Hills, 90210, where their characters, David Silver and Brenda Walsh, did not engage romantically, as David was often paired with Donna Martin, played by Tori Spelling, Doherty’s real-life friend.
Years after the show concluded, Doherty disclosed on Spelling’s podcast that she had briefly dated Green. “It was a short-lived fling, and it didn’t work out,” Doherty revealed in April, describing their romantic encounter as awkward and lacking chemistry.
During the podcast, Combs also recounted catching Green and Doherty together, though details of the encounter remained vague. Green attributed the incident to a night of heavy drinking, noting that they had been advised to avoid each other, advice they reportedly followed.
When Combs quizzed Green on how many of the Halliwell sisters he had kissed—referring to the four sisters from Charmed—Green humorously admitted he had missed two, though Combs questioned his count.
Doherty passed away in July after a long battle with cancer. Green expressed admiration for her resilience, saying, “Shannen was incredibly tough and unapologetically herself. If you knew her, you’d understand.”
He also expressed frustration over the negative perceptions of Doherty, stating, “It drove me crazy to see her get hate and be called a ‘bitch.’ She had a huge heart and never meant to hurt anyone; she was just very honest about her beliefs.”
