On September 16, Kim Woo-bin made an appearance on the show “Salty Brother” hosted by Shin Dong-yup, where he openly discussed his battle with cancer. Diagnosed with nasopharyngeal cancer in May 2017, Kim Woo-bin was declared cancer-free by 2019. Reflecting on this period, Shin Dong-kyu, his co-star from the Netflix series ‘Officer Black Belt,’ expressed his amazement at how Kim never outwardly showed his pain, stating, “It was truly shocking how well he hid his suffering.”
Kim Woo-bin shared that receiving the news of his cancer diagnosis, and being told he had only six months to live, was both terrifying and unexpected. He endured intense chemotherapy and radiation therapy during his treatment.
Despite the fear, Kim remained optimistic and chose not to focus on the possibility of not overcoming his illness. Over time, he viewed his situation as an opportunity, maintaining his resolve throughout the treatment process.
Describing his cancer battle, Kim explained that it gave him a rare chance to reflect and reconnect with his family after years of a non-stop career. He credited the unwavering support from his loved ones, noting how the prayers and well wishes from the public helped him through the physical challenges of treatment.
His positive attitude played a remarkable role in his recovery, even surprising the doctors. He spoke about the importance of expressing gratitude, especially to his parents, calling it a “task of the heart,” and emphasized that it took courage to share his feelings.
Kim Woo-bin’s diagnosis came shortly after publicly confirming his relationship with actress Shin Min-Ah in 2015, which garnered widespread sympathy. With her care and the support of others around him, Kim was declared cancer-free in 2019.
Recently, Kim Woo-bin’s agency, AM Entertainment, donated 100 million won to Seoul Asan Medical Center to help support patients in need. Known for his generosity, Kim has been making annual donations to assist pediatric cancer patients.
Likewise, Shin Min-Ah donated nearly 300 million won last year to various causes, including Seoul Asan Medical Center, raising her total charitable contributions to over 3.7 billion won. The couple’s lasting love and philanthropy have earned them admiration from fans and the public alike.
