At one of his concerts, Prince famously asked Halle Berry out on a date. The 58-year-old actress shared this memory during her appearance on the September 23 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, reminiscing about the late music icon known for his hit “Purple Rain.”
During the interview, host Jimmy Kimmel inquired whether it was true that Michael Jackson had asked Babyface to arrange a date between him and Berry. After a brief pause, Berry confirmed, “I don’t know. But I know Prince asked me out on a date.”

The Oscar-winning actress elaborated that Prince’s proposal was made “sort of” in person. “I was at one of his concerts at the Key Club on Sunset Boulevard, and he sent someone out with a piece of paper.
You know, like kids do when they ask, ‘Do you like me? Yes or no.’ I was like, ‘Yes!’ I mean, I’m at his concert, right? Yes! Then they came back again and asked, ‘Would you go out with me?'”
Berry humorously noted that she didn’t return the paper this time. “No, I didn’t send the paper back. I kept the paper.” Prince passed away in 2016 at the age of 57. In 2011, he honored Berry by presenting her with an award at the NAACP Image Awards.
As she hugged Prince while accepting the award, Berry began her speech by expressing her excitement: “As if winning an Image Award couldn’t be more incredible, but to have it presented by Prince is just amazing. I’ve loved him my whole life, so thank you, Prince, for honoring me tonight….”
In a 2017 interview with Andscape, Berry revealed that Prince was the first artist she ever saw in concert. “My first concert was Prince. His music transformed my childhood and teenage years,” she shared. “He helped me through some tough times. I was a huge fan, and I became friends with him during his lifetime.”
Currently, Berry is in a relationship with musician Van Hunt, whom she was introduced to through his brother. Speaking about their connection in a recent Marie Claire interview, she expressed, “It was the first time I was madly in love before having sex. That has never happened to me, ever. It was one of those life-changing, beautiful experiences. It was magical, just magical.”
Having been married three times previously, Berry reflected on her bond with Hunt, 54, stating, “It took me a minute to get it right. But given how this relationship developed, I genuinely believe that this is it. This is my person.”
