Harrison Ford has experienced fatherhood through various life stages. The iconic star of Indiana Jones welcomed his first sons, Benjamin, 58, and Willard, 55, during the 1960s with his first wife, illustrator Mary Marquardt. At that time, Ford was in his early 20s and had not yet embarked on his acting career.
With his second wife, Melissa Mathison, he became a father again, adding son Malcolm, 36, in 1987, and daughter Georgia, 34, in 1990. A decade later, he adopted Liam, 22, the son of his now-wife, Calista Flockhart.
While the age differences among his five children may be unconventional, Ford sees this as beneficial for his parenting approach. Reflecting on his parenting journey, Ford remarked to The Independent in 2010, “My older children have taught me a lot. I was 25 when my first child was born; I think I’m a bit better at it now.”
When discussing his experience raising Liam at 67, Ford noted, “I’ve got five kids, so this isn’t my first rodeo. I don’t dwell on getting older; I have a 9-year-old at home and feel like his father.”
Though his children are now adults, Ford expressed to Esquire in May 2023 that he would “take a bullet” for any of them. He also acknowledged that he might have been a more effective parent had he not achieved such success in his acting career.
Here’s a closer look at Harrison Ford’s children: Benjamin, William, Malcolm, Georgia, and Liam.
Benjamin Ford, 58
The eldest of Ford’s children, Benjamin “Ben” Ford, arrived on September 22, 1966. At that time, Ford had just begun acting and was a decade away from his breakout role as Han Solo in Star Wars.
Ben has carved out a successful career as a chef, owning Ford’s Filling Station and authoring Taming the Feast: Ben Ford’s Field Guide to Adventurous Cooking, according to his Instagram bio.
In a 2015 interview with CBS This Morning, Ben shared that baseball was his passion growing up, but an injury led him to pursue cooking instead. “After my injury, I grabbed some of my mom’s Jacques Pépin videos and kitchen knives, then went to San Francisco and started at the bottom,” he recalled.
In his personal life, Ben and his estranged wife, Emily Ford, have two sons, Ethan and Waylon. Emily filed for divorce in November 2023 after 14 years of marriage, and their divorce was finalized in March 2024.
Willard Ford, 55
Born on May 14, 1969, Willard Ford is the second child of Ford and Marquardt. Like his brother, Willard ventured into a field away from acting. He earned a B.A. in American Studies from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and is now an entrepreneur, owning Strong Sports Gym in Los Angeles. He previously ran the Kim Sing Theatre, which he used for various events.
In 2014, while selling the L.A. theater, Willard described his work in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter: “We’ve hosted launch events for BMW, Nike, and corporate events for the Grammys and Pepsi. It’s a great venue for all that.” Willard is also a grandfather through his two children, Eliel and Guiliana Ford.
Malcolm Ford, 36
Malcolm Ford was born on October 3, 1987, to Ford and Mathison. Pursuing a career in music, Malcolm is a professional musician rather than an actor.
He was the lead singer of The Dough Rollers, a band that opened for famous artists like Bob Dylan and Queens of the Stone Age. Interestingly, his bandmate, Jack Byrne, is the son of actors Ellen Barkin and Gabriel Byrne.
In a 2013 interview with Interview Magazine, Malcolm reflected on his musical upbringing, noting, “There wasn’t a lot of music in our home; my first cassette was from Green Jellÿ, and I got into punk music first.”
Georgia Ford, 34
The only daughter in the family, Georgia Ford, was born on June 30, 1990. Following in her father’s footsteps, she pursued acting and appeared in films such as American Milkshake (2013), True Story (2015), and the 2020 anthology I’m Being Me.
While Ford tends to keep his family life private, he spoke movingly about Georgia at a 2016 event for NYU Langone Medical Center, revealing that she experienced seizures as a child and took years to be diagnosed with epilepsy. “I admire her perseverance, talent, and strength,” he shared, adding that she had not had a seizure in eight years due to proper treatment.
In honor of Georgia, Ford auctioned his iconic Han Solo jacket for epilepsy research in March 2016, and they were spotted enjoying lunch together in New York City that same month.
Liam Flockhart Ford, 22
The youngest of Ford’s children is Liam Flockhart Ford, who was born in 2001. Flockhart adopted Liam before she and Ford began dating, and Ford later adopted him as well.
In a 2008 interview with Reader’s Digest, Ford expressed his gratitude for being part of Liam’s upbringing, stating, “Being a parent made me a bit less self-centered. It’s wonderful to witness a child’s growth.” He also acknowledged Flockhart’s role in bringing Liam into their home.
In 2020, Ford and Flockhart were seen dropping Liam off at college, and Ford made a memorable entrance by flying him there on his private plane.
While Ford enjoys flying, Liam encouraged him to try something new. During an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, Ford mentioned that he went skydiving because Liam wanted to, saying, “It was fun, and we’re considering doing it again, just not telling his mother about it.”
