Ja Rule and his family frequently find themselves in the public eye. The rapper, along with his wife Aisha Atkins, has three children: Brittney, Jeffrey Jr., and Jordan. In 2019, Brittney and Jeffrey Jr. appeared on WE tv’s Growing Up Hip Hop: New York. Leading up to the show’s premiere, the “Mesmerize” artist spoke with PEOPLE Now about his parenting experiences.
“My goal is for my kids to approach me, not shy away,” he shared, noting that he believes “nothing is off-limits” when discussing tough subjects. “I tell them often that there are three people you should never lie to: your doctor, your lawyer, and me, your dad.”
He added, “I’m the one who will always help you out, no matter the situation. I genuinely have your best interests at heart.” In a 2015 interview with Wetpaint, Ja Rule mentioned that his kids can sometimes share too much information, but he prefers this openness over silence.
He expressed to PEOPLE Now that the show would allow viewers to see a different aspect of his life. “People often miss the side of me that is a dad and a husband. They see me as a cool, laid-back guy without drama.”
Here’s an overview of Ja Rule’s three children.
Brittney Asja Atkins, 29
Brittney, born on September 22, 1995, is Ja Rule’s eldest child. During her time on Growing Up Hip Hop: New York, she discussed the challenges of people trying to connect with her through her father. “It’s important to observe people’s true intentions,” she advised in an interview with Access Hollywood. “If someone’s primary interest is just my dad, that’s a red flag for me.”
Reflecting on her upbringing, Brittney stated, “Being Ja Rule’s daughter was definitely unique, but I wouldn’t categorize it as difficult; it had its highs and lows.” She is involved in the entertainment industry as an actor and screenwriter and is a SAG-AFTRA member. Brittney has appeared in various reality shows alongside her father and in the hip-hop anthology series Tales.
“I’m focused on acting and screenwriting,” she said in 2019 while promoting the reality series. Ja Rule commended Brittney for having his fighting spirit, saying, “She’s always ready for a debate. When she gets into it, she really goes for it.”
In November 2019, she made her talk show debut with her dad on The Real Daytime. When asked about the reality TV experience, she shared her father’s advice: “If you don’t want it out there, don’t put it out there. I just try to be myself.”
Brittney has launched her own haircare brand, Based On You, which she introduced on the show. The brand features shampoos, conditioners, and hair masks developed with a professional chemist.
In September 2023, Brittney hinted at her engagement to Tiki by posting a video of the proposal on Instagram with the caption, “ISSA WIFE 🥺🥰🥂.” Recently, they announced via a joint Instagram post that their wedding is planned for 2025.
Jeffrey Atkins Jr., 24
Born in 2000, Jeffrey Jr. also participated in Growing Up Hip Hop: New York. He mentioned, “I want to share my unique story,” in a promotional clip for the show. Following his father’s musical legacy, Jeffrey Jr. creates music under the name SINNERSDEDX and uses Instagram to showcase his work.
As of August 2024, he has gained over 44,000 followers and released an album titled The World Ends with Sin in 2022, along with several singles in the preceding years. He closely resembles his father. On December 10, 2022, Aisha shared an Instagram post featuring Ja Rule and Jeffrey Jr. side by side, captioned “#mytwins” with heart emojis.
Fans noted the strong likeness, with comments like, “Straight copy and paste 😂🔥🔥” and “He stole your whole face, Ja.” The father and son have attended events together, such as the Add Ventures Music Official Launch Party in New York City on January 16, 2016, where they posed for photos with Ashanti.
Jordan Atkins, 21
Ja Rule and Aisha welcomed their youngest child, Jordan, on April 6, 2003. Jordan showcases his comedic talent on TikTok under the handle @mealyworld, creating skits that resonate with his audience. One video about watching Euphoria alone versus with someone else garnered over 71,000 views.
Although he did not appear on Growing Up Hip Hop: New York, Jordan has accompanied his family to public events, including the MTV Video Music Awards in 2018, where they coordinated in stylish black outfits.
To celebrate Jordan’s birthday in 2023, Aisha shared a series of photos on Instagram, expressing her pride in her son. “Happy birthday to my youngest son @mxv_jordy187! I can’t believe you’re 20. I’m so proud of the young man you’ve become. You’ll always be my baby boy!”
When he turned 21 in 2024, she shared another heartfelt message on Instagram. “Happy Birthday to my youngest son! I can’t believe you are 21 today. I love you so much and hope you enjoy your special day!” Jordan frequently posts pictures with his girlfriend, Alexia Chanel, including a series of affectionate snaps to mark his 21st birthday.
