Insights into Samuel L. Jackson’s enduring marriage with LaTanya Richardson Jackson are being shared. The 75-year-old actor graces the cover of AARP The Magazine’s October/November 2024 issue, where he discusses various topics, including his career, sobriety, and family life in a candid interview.
Jackson reveals how he and his wife, aged 74, have navigated challenges in their relationship, emphasizing the importance of perseverance when it would be tempting to give up. He notes, “It takes a lot of tolerance, because everybody’s got flaws, and not giving up when it would be easy to give up.”
Reflecting on his marriage, he admits, “I’ve done some crazy things, you know? She has too, whether in her mind or in reality. But you have to ask yourself, ‘Is that a breakup offense?’ or ‘Do we just need to spend some time together to understand each other better?’”
He adds that certain habits are learned to be overlooked in a relationship, pointing out, “One thing she had to accept is that I’m going to go to work. I’ll be working all the time until it’s time for something else.”
The couple, who celebrated 44 years of marriage in April, share a daughter, Zoe, who is 42 years old. Previously, when they appeared on the cover of PEOPLE in 2022, they discussed their commitment to each other, stating they made a pact to remain united through all circumstances.
LaTanya explained, “In the beginning, we believed the most revolutionary act for Black people was to stay together and raise our children as a family, since many like to portray a different narrative about African American families.”
To counter that narrative, she said, “We decided to stick together no matter what. We’ll figure it out.” The Piano Lesson will be available in select theaters on November 8 and will stream on Netflix starting November 22.
